Hamilton, Saguaro take ESPN stage
There will be no shortage of future college football players to see at The Arizona Republic's Week 4 Game of the Week.
Here's a look at some of the top recruits from Chandler Hamilton and Scottsdale Saguaro. Hamilton plays at Saguaro on Friday night in an ESPN nationally televised game at 6.
Hamilton Huskies (2-0)
Nicco Marchiol, QB, 6-2, 215, Jr.
He has narrowed his top colleges to eight: Arizona State, USC, Florida State, LSU, Mississippi, Michigan, Florida, TCU. He is a big, mobile quarterback who is willing to stand in the pocket and make tough throws and take off with his legs to make plays. He's an efficient thrower who reads the field well.
Jack Howell, Athlete, 6-0, 190, Sr. He has committed to Colorado State. A Colorado transplant, he'll make plays on special teams as a kick returner, on offense at receiver and mostly on defense at safety. He'll be playing safety in college.
Noah Schmidt, RB, 5-11, 195, Sr. He's not had offers come in since moving from Colorado this summer. But he has looked like one of the top running backs after two games, showing off speed and moves. He had nearly 2,000 rushing yards as a junior at Aurora Grandview last season.
Cole Martin, DB, 5-10, 175, So.
He is ranked by The Arizona Republic as the No. 3 prospect in the 2023 class. A cornerback, he has a four-star rating by 247Sports. His offers include ASU, Colorado, Florida State, Arkansas, Michigan State, LSU and Nebraska.
Michael Masunas, TE, 6-4, 235, Jr. A transfer from Tucson Sabino, he is a three-star by 247Sports with offers from Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Northern Arizona. A big, strong target who can get down on a hand and block and make catches over the middle. Zach Lewis, DB, 5-11, 180, Sr.
He has committed to Nevada. Great ball skills. Can play press on big receivers. Quick, athletic, smart.
Saguaro Sabercats (2-0)
Denzel Burke, Athlete, 6-0, 190, Sr. Committed to Ohio State. One of the top cornerbacks in the nation. Will also ball out on offense at receiver. Good speed, quickness. Strong in man coverage. Quarterbacks avoid throwing to his side.
Quintin Somerville, DE,
Sr.
Anchors a tremendous defensive line. Committed to Michigan. Has quickness and speed and power to get to quarterbacks quickly.
Tristan Monday, DE/OLB, 6-4, 240, Jr.
He can play down on the line or at linebacker in coverage. He has a threestar rating by 247Sports. Holds offers from Arizona, Baylor, Colorado and Florida State.
Alani Ma'afu, DT, 6-2, 275, Sr.
A top rugby player, he is tenacious in the middle of the line. Is a three-star recruit by 247Sports composite. Washington State has offered him.
Darrion Dalton, DT, 6-3, 270, Sr.
A three-star recruit, he has committed to San Diego State. He worked hard over the last year to turn into a Division I recruit, transforming his body and working on his strength to become a top defensive lineman.
Javen Jacobs, Athlete, 5-10, 170, Jr. A very good athlete who excels in baseball. He has offers from ASU, Idaho and New Mexico. A big playmaker on offense at receiver and in the backfield and in the secondary on defense.
