The nation’s capital just erupted into violence, rioting and attacking police in the most dramatic attempt to overturn a democratically elected president.

The violent rioters want to forcefully nullify 80 million votes to keep their loser president in power. This isn’t a scene out of a Third World country where a strongman simply grabs power.

It’s playing out in the United States of America, a country that has been the beacon of democracy around the world.

It’s a shameful scene incited by President Donald Trump and a bunch of Republican lawmakers who are contesting the election results. These lawmakers, sworn to protect and defend the Constitution, are instead leading a revolt against it.

Trump protesters breached the Capitol on Wednesday where Congress members were actually spending time talking about nullifying the election.

Somehow, a bunch of Republicans led by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and a few extremists from Arizona, staged a protest to certify the Electoral College results that will put Democrat Joe Biden in the White House.

The courts have tossed every election challenge, but these Republicans are forging ahead with their charade, fueling the volatile protesters on the streets.

A few Republicans are speaking out against this type of behavior, including Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, but not enough to quash the revolt against the country.

GOP Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell rejected the election ploy, saying, “We cannot simply declare ourselves a national board of elections on steroids.”

Why did he wait until the last minute to say it? McConnell and most elected Republicans enabled Trump for four years and are still letting him taint the country.

This is all on you, Republicans.

The same folks who’ve preached law and order are now leading a violent revolt or encouraging it with their tacit support.

Where are the Republicans who condemned the violence that erupted during the summer’s racial protests? Where are their cries for police to tear gas protesters and quash them with rubber bullets?

It’s a dark day in America. It’s a dark day for democracy here and across the world because the United States no longer has the moral authority it once had.

This is on you, Republicans.

America is tired of pleading for common sense. What now? We must fight like hell to protect what’s left of this United States of America.
