John McCain’s former chief of staff is writing a film script about the late senator’s legacy of heroism.

The Arizona Republican Party may be trying to distance itself from John McCain’s widow, but at the same time his life is being turned into a movie.

As reported in Deadline.com, Stampede Ventures plans to make a movie version of the late Arizona senator’s life based on “The Luckiest Man: Life with John McCain,” by Mark Salter. Salter, McCain’s former chief of staff, will cowrite the film’s script with Craig Turk (“The Good Wife”).

Stampede also optioned the rights to

“Faith of My Fathers” and “Worth the Fighting For,” books written by McCain, who died in 2018, and Salter.

Cindy McCain, the late senator’s widow, will executive produce the film, according to Deadline.

Cindy McCain weighs in on late husband’s life

“John’s story is one of incredible heroism, of serving causes greater than

his own self-interest,” Cindy McCain said in a statement. “There is no better time to tell it. I’m excited to share his life and legacy, and know this film will be a tremendous inspiration to people all over the world.”

The news comes at a time when the Arizona Republican Party is expected to censure Cindy McCain, who supported Joe Biden in the presidential election. The party censured John McCain in 2014.

John McCain was a well-known film buff who loved talking about movies.

He appeared in “Wedding Crashers,” the show “24” and two episodes of “Parks and Recreation.”

A 2005 TV movie based on “Faith of My Fathers” was nominated for four Emmy Awards.

He also hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2002, and appeared on the show at other times.
