Biggs says Biden will do damage already done

Republican Rep. Andy Biggs attempted to trash the future of the Joe Biden presidency by perfectly describing the damage the Donald Trump presidency already has done to America.

The big brains at The Lincoln Project could not have come up with a more concise and damning description of Trump’s harm to the nation than what Biggs wrote in a tweet Wednesday, the day of Biden’s inauguration.

He said:

The Biden administration’s agenda will greatly expand the size of government, restrict freedoms, leave American interests and security woefully vulnerable, and diminish America’s standing in the world around us. Allow us to review. Actually, it is Trump who greatly expanded the size of government, and it happened way before the coronavirus crisis. Just look at the money spent. The numbers are staggering. He didn't drain the swamp. He refilled it to overflowing.

As it was described in Reason, “So under Trump's signature, before any true crisis hit, the annual price tag of government went up by $937 billion in less than four years — more than the $870 billion price hike Obama produced in an eight-year span that included a massive federal response to a financial meltdown.”

It’s also true that, rather than expanding freedoms, restricting them has been very high on the Trump agenda.

Or, as laid out in the Center for American Progress (among other publications):

“The Trump administration’s approach emboldens opponents of human rights and undermines not only the nation’s moral standing but also its security. The administration’s policies on religious liberty, reproductive rights, and issues that affect people of color, immigrants, and indigenous populations have harmed people at home and around the world.”

Then, there is Biggs’ suggestion that Biden will “diminish America’s standing in the world.”

HA!

The man clearly has been blinded by the light he sees emanating from his Dear Leader. Has he not heard or seen any of the things America’s allies around the world have said about Trump?

Vladmir Putin may love Trump, but the free nations of the world see just the opposite.

As a Pew Research Center survey points out: “Since Donald Trump took office as president, the image of the United States has suffered across many regions of the globe. As a new 13nation Pew Research Center survey illustrates, America’s reputation has declined further over the past year among many key allies and partners.”

There you have it, the sad reality of politicians who choose to see things as they’d like them to be, or imagine them to be, or hope that you’ll believe them to be, rather than how they really are. In a perverse way, I suppose you could say the congressman was performing a public service.

In trying to predict Biden’s future, Rep. Biggs perfectly and succinctly described Trump’s past.

Thank you, sir.
