Sweet and smart Hope loves 2-legged friends

- Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Hope

It has been over a month since 8year-old Hope has been in the care of the Arizona Humane Society after her previous owner unfortunately became ill and could no longer care for her. With nowhere else to go, Hope found herself in AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital where it was discovered that she is facing some senior pet ailments, including worn down teeth, hip dysplasia and possible bladder issues that will require a follow-up visit to her future veterinarian and potential ongoing care. However, even with all this, Hope’s sweet demeanor and kind soul throughout her time at the shelter has already won over the staff of AHS.

Hope’s quality of life is still great and she has a lot of pep in her step, however, due to her ongoing care, AHS is hoping a special family out there will fall in love with her big brown eyes and be willing to not only give her the love and care she deserves but also willing to take on her potential medical needs.

As is evidenced by everyone’s adoration of this sweet pup, Hope has shown to be a very loving girl who gets along with every two-legged friend she meets. Hope is also a very smart doggo who knows her basic commands like “sit” and “stay,” loves to go on walks to explore her surroundings and is an expert at playing fetch with her favorite stuffed animals. And while Hope absolutely loves her human friends, she does need to be the only dog in her new home as other pups cause her a great amount of stress.

How to adopt: In order to help her find her forever home, Hope’s adoption fee is waived for the person or family dedicated to giving her the love and care she deserves during her golden years. Those interested in learning more about adopting Hope are encouraged to fill out an application at azhu mane.org/AdoptHope.
