D-Backs exec Rawitch lands Cooperstown job
Josh Rawitch is leaving his role as head of communications with the Diamondbacks to become the president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Rawitch, 44, who has worked in baseball for 27 seasons, including the past 10 with the Diamondbacks, will start with the hall on Sept. 9.
“I am truly honored to join the team at the Hall of Fame, a revered institution that is fundamental to the preservation of the history of our game and its legends,” Rawitch said in a statement released by the hall. “Cooperstown is a special place and every baseball fan who has set foot in the village knows how powerful that experience can be, while those who haven’t visited undoubtedly have it on their bucket list. My family is looking forward to being a part of the community for many years to come.”
Rawitch, who joined the Diamondbacks after the 2011 season following 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, received the Robert O. Fishel Award in 2018 for public relations excellence in the majors. He has held the title of senior vice president of content and communications for the Diamondbacks the past six seasons.
“I am thrilled for Josh and commend the search committee on identifying a terrific hire,” Diamondbacks Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick said in a statement. “As a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame board of directors, I look forward to continuing to work with him, and have great confidence that he will be a success in Cooperstown. He will always be a part of our D-backs family and I thank him for all of his contributions.”
Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall said in a statement: “I am excited for Josh and his family with this amazing opportunity in our great sport. I have worked with Josh for parts of three decades at two different organizations and know firsthand that he is one of our true talents industry-wide. As he did here, he will make the Hall of Fame a better place with his passion, creativity, and leadership.”
