ASU duo named to USA Baseball Collegiate National team

Arizona State baseball’s Ethan Long and Sean McLain will play on the USA Baseball College National team this summer.

Long and McLain are among 48 players selected to play on 24-man Stars and Stripes teams for an 11-game tour of intrasquad games, July 2-15.

Ten games will be played in Appalachia­n League cities. On July 4, the teams will play at the USA Baseball national training complex in Cary, North Carolina.

The Appalachia­n League is in its first year as a summer collegiate league as part of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball’s Prospect Developmen­t Pipeline.

Long hit .340 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI as an ASU freshman primarily used as a designated hitter. He had .704 slugging and .417 on base percentage­s.

As a redshirt freshman second baseman, McLain hit .322 with seven homers and 37 RBI.
