Mila and more pets up for adoption in shelters this week

- — Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Mila: Quick with a tail wag

You would never guest adorable Mila is already a decade old, or as she’d like to say, 10 years young! The beautiful Labrador Retriever mix was surrendered to the Arizona Humane Society earlier this month when her previous family were moving and unfortunately could not bring her with. A heartbreaking decision for any family to make.

Mila, although a bit shy at first, has shown just how loving and happy she is in her short time at AHS so far. Although not a fan of needles, she quickly forgave her medical friends for helping her stay happy and healthy during her initial exams with a quick tail wag and tons of kisses. Although she is very healthy for her age, Mila is an older pet who has some arthritis that will need to be kept an eye on.

Described as an extremely affectionate girl who loves to snuggle, it is no wonder that everyone who knows Mila instantly falls in love. Having lived with kids and dogs before, she also returns the favor with lots of love to give to others as well. In typical lab fashion, she also loves to go on walks, trips to the lake and play with her favorite humans. This senior girl is looking for a home that understands how awesome senior pets are and that she deserves to spend her golden years in a house full of love and cuddles.
