Larry Joe Felder
Larry Joe Felder passed away unexpectedly on August 25th, 2021. Larry was born on December 11th, 1940 in Canton, Oklahoma to Lawrence Joseph Felder and Iona Pearl Felder (née Wells) and had one sister, Linda Griggs. He married the love of his life, Judy May Kliewer, on November 12, 1959. Larry and Judy have three children, James L. Felder, William Michael Felder and Teresa Jean Felder. They have eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren and another on the way. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sister and his beloved wife.
Larry attended Oklahoma State University where he received a degree in architecture in 1964. Larry started his career with a move to Phoenix where he worked with several small architectural and design companies before finding his way to Ramada Development Co. in Phoenix, Arizona where he spent 16 years and rose to become Chief Architect. He then worked for the engineering firm Black and Vetch before returning to the hotel industry where he worked for Best Western Hotels until he retired.
Larry and family moved into a very modest house in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1965 where he lived for the rest of his life. In true architect fashion the current house bears little resemblance to that original house as he designed and implemented a number of additions.
Always learning and growing, even after he retired, he spent much of his time lately designing a solar array that would provide most of the energy required by the house while also serving as a canopy for the front courtyard to provide shade so he could enjoy that space for a greater portion of the year.
His family and friends will greatly miss his willingness to help whenever asked as well as his chats when walking the neighborhood. He always appreciated a good gabfest. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Brain Trauma Foundation at braintrauma.org/donate.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 13th, 2021 at the Canton First United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Hammans officiating. Interment will follow at Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. The family will also hold a Memorial in Scottsdale, AZ for friends, neighbors, and family in December. Please celebrate Larry by sharing your stories and pictures on Facebook at "Larryfelder".
