Valle del Sol offers bilingual counseling, behavioral health care
Valle del Sol was founded in 1970 to fill a gap in behavioral health and social services available to the Latino community and underserved populations.
Services are provided in English and Spanish in counseling, substance abuse treatment, health services and leadership development programs.
Clients can receive wellness exams from health care providers, in addition to mental health services to help with anxiety, depression and relationships. Support groups are offered for adults and teens to help with self-confidence, drug and alcohol abuse, and to teach life-skills.
Court ordered treatment classes in anger management, domestic violence, parenting, and substance abuse are also provided through the organization.
Last year, Valle del Sol received a $20,000 grant from the Arizona Republic-sponsored Season for Sharing. In total, $2.1 million went to 176 organizations that help children and families, teachers and students and older Arizonans. This year’s fundraising campaign kicked off Nov. 14.
“Through the years, Season for Sharing and the subscribers of the Arizona Republic… have donated generously, allowing organizations like ours to expand our reach and help more families than we could have otherwise,” said
Valle del Sol’s Erika Mach, adding that financial support for nonprofits “provides oxygen.”
How many individuals do you help each year? We serve various communities ... through our seven locations, our community mobile health units and through our telehealth option. In 2020, Valle del Sol served nearly 20,000 individuals in Arizona.
How was the Season for Sharing Grant spent? Programs were created to help families find joy in times of stress by utilizing family engagement techniques and Zoom interfaces. It also helped provide classes on creative selfcare.
How do you gauge success? By ensuring families get the services they need. Individuals leave better off when they complete programs and are more prepared with useful skills for their emotional and physical health.
What are your organization’s greatest needs? Funding support and assistance to hire therapists and staff ... as we start the process of healing from stress and anxiety as a result of the pandemic.
Any obstacles or challenges? Valle del Sol is working to address workforce challenges to quickly shift to serving more individuals. As people continue to see the effects of COVID-19, we will remain a culturally competent healthcare resource for families to take care of their physical and behavioral health needs.
