-

83, of Gilbert, was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, sister in-law, cousin, aunt, friend & neighbor, who was called to heaven on Tuesday, November 23rd. Born in New Orleans, she was the second oldest of five kids to Miriam & Charles McCluer, who’s family moved to South Phoenix in the 40’s due to health concerns. Patricia graduated from South Mountain High School in 1956, one of the jobs she had after graduating, was at The Arizona Republic Newspaper, as a secretary. While she worked there, she befriended her co-worker… & future sister in-law, Joanne Hurst (Mossey), who introduced her to her brother & future husband, Croft Victor Hurst. The couple started dating until they were married in 1958, they bought land in South Phoenix & built their first home as husband & wife. It was at this home that Patricia started her new job as a homemaker & mother, the couple welcomed their first of two son’s James Michael in 1963 & Douglas Owen in 1967. The family eventually moved from Phoenix to Mesa, & then to Gilbert where they bought land & they built their new home to raise their family. Patricia, & her family, were devout Catholics & attended weekly services at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Gilbert. In 1985 Patricia, thinking about her & her husband’s future, took on a new title, provider & went to work for the Gilbert Unified School District, at Gilbert High School, she started off working in the cafeteria as a cashier & concession worker. Years later she was promoted to lead baker & then eventually transferred to Highland High School. As a baker she was known, by staff & students alike, for her “made from scratch” mouthwatering dinner rolls, her delicious cakes & her holiday pumpkin rolls. After 20 years working for the school district, she retired in 2005 & returned to her previous job as homemaker, loving wife & mother. Besides loving to bake, Patricia loved canning fresh organic fruits & vegetables harvested from the families many fruit tree’s & vegetables gardens, that her husband planted. She also loved getting good deals & saving money at the grocery store with the many coupons that she clipped, “The Coupon Queen”, as her son referred to her as. She also loved going up to the mountains during the summer & fall with her family & her lifelong friends, Gene & Dale Woith, & staying at their cabin in Gordon Canyon, just below the Mogollon Rim. This loving person will be sorely missed. She is survived by her son Douglas, her sister’s & brother-law’s, Joann & Carlos Green, Carol & Frank Fiedler & many nieces & nephews.
