PEORIA – We are saddened to announce the passing of Howard D. Waltz Jr on December 2, 2021. Howie was a resident of Peoria, AZ and 85 at the time of his passing. He passed peacefully in his sleep from COPD and Valley Fever at Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City. We are grateful for the fine care that he received at Boswell.

Howard was born in New London, CT on June 24, 1936 the only child of Howard and Julia Waltz. He spent his childhood throughout the eastern half of the country and settled in Mansfield, Ohio where he graduated from Mansfield Senior High. Mansfield is where he met the woman who would become his wife, Stella Logan. They were married in 1958 and moved to Phoenix to start their family. Howard was a member of the Ohio and Arizona Air Guard and was very proud of his service. Howard was a very hard worker and was able to travel the world while working as a Facilities Engineer for Sperry then Honeywell Flight Systems. Howard was an avid outdoorsma­n who enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and skiing. He shared these passions with his family and friends. Howard was also an accomplish­ed singer. He sang in church choirs and in local groups in Phoenix and the White Mountains. Howard spent most of the last 23 years living in Pinetop and Show Low in the beloved White Mountains of our beautiful state.

Howard and Stella were blessed with 3 children, Howard III (Peoria), Geoff (Longmont, CO) and Elizabeth (Peoria). They also have 7 grandchild­ren and 5 great grandchild­ren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Stella (1998) and 1 grandchild (Jason).

Howard is being cared for at Heritage Funeral Chapel and there are no services currently planned.

Howard’s family is asking in lieu of flowers any monetary donations be sent in memory of Howard to Paralyzed Veterans of America in his name, thank you.
