NC State rolls to rout of Saint Mary’s

No. 2 North Carolina State 101, Saint Mary’s 73: : Elissa Cunane had 15 points and nine rebounds as host N.C. State (10-1) won its 10th straight game, beating Saint Mary’s (5-4) on Sunday.

Cunane scored nine points during an early 18-0 run that put the Wolfpack in control.

Kayla Jones added 13 points, Jakia Brown-Turner had 11 points and six rebounds for N.C. State. Aziaha James tallied 11 points, five rebounds and two steals.

No. 1 South Carolina 66, No. 8 Maryland 59: Zia Cooke scored 20 points, including the go-ahead layup with 5:13 to play, as host South Carolina outlasted Maryland (9-3) for its fourth victory over a top-10 opponent this season.

Aliyah Boston added 16 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the Gamecocks, who improved to 10-0 for the first time in six seasons. Not that it came easily against Maryland. The Terrapins overcame a 53-47 deficit in the fourth quarter with eight straight points closed by Faith Masonius’ basket.

No. 6 Arizona 77, New Mexico 60: Freshman Madi Conner came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points and host Arizona used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to put away New Mexico (8-4).

The Wildcats improved to 9-0 for the fourth time in school history and second time in three seasons.

Conner, who came in averaging 3.8 points per game, was 5 of 10 from 3-point range and paced a bench attack that produced 32 points for the Wildcats.

No. 7 Louisville 64, No. 14 Kentucky 58: Ahlana Smith and Hailey Van Lith each made two late baskets and host Louisville (8-1) held off Kentucky (6-3) on Sunday to beat their in-state archrivals for the fifth straight time.

A moment of silence was held before the game to remember victims from Friday night’s storms in Mayfield. Louisville’s athletic department also teamed with the KFC Yum! Center and the Kroger grocery store chain for a bottled water drive.

Smith hit a go-ahead jumper with 2:47 remaining. Chelsie Hall added three free throws in the final 17 seconds as the Cardinals won their eighth consecutiv­e game.

No. 9 Tennessee 84, Georgia State

60: Tamari Key scored 16 points to lead host Tennessee (9-0) to a victory over Georgia State (4-5).

The 6-foot-6 Key, who also collected 11 rebounds, was one of five Lady Volunteers in double figures. Keyen Green scored 14, Sara Puckett had 12, Brooklynn Miles 11 and Jordan Horston 10.

Taniyah Worth scored 13 for Georgia State, which had no answer for Tennessee’s size. The Lady Vols controlled the boards, 62-33.

No. 10 Indiana 86, No. 20 Ohio State 66: Mackenzie Holmes scored a careerhigh 30 points and Indiana (8-2, 2-0 Big Ten) beat host Ohio State (7-2, 1-1).

The Hoosiers never trailed and pulled away in the second quarter, shooting 62.5% behind 11 points from Nicole Cardano-Hillary, who finished with 17

points. Grace Berger scored 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting.Overall, Indiana shot 58% from the field, with 56 points in the paint.

No. 13 Michigan 73, Minnesota 61: Naz Hillmon scored 17 of her 25 points in the second half and host Michigan (10-1, 2-0 Big Ten) defeated Minnesota (6-6, 0-2).

Leigha Brown scored 10 of her 19 after the break to help the Wolverines pull away. Jasmine Powell scored 19 points and Sara Scalia 13 for the Golden Gophers. Powell had 13 in the first half when Minnesota used a 22-12 second quarter to take a 33-29 lead.

No. 15 Iowa State 70, Northern Iowa 69: Ashley Joens came up with a key blocked shot in the closing seconds and host Iowa State (10-1) needed a defensive stand to hold off Northern Iowa (6-3).

Emmerson Green hit a 3-pointer with 1:11 left, then followed with a three-point play with :34 to play to get Northern Iowa within one, 70-69. Iowa State’s Lexi Donarski was stripped in the backcourt by Karli Rucker and then Donarski knocked the ball away from Rucker under the UNI basket to stop the go-ahead basket but the Panthers retained possession.

No. 17 South Florida 64, Virginia Commonweal­th 57: Elisa Pinzan scored a career-high 24 points and Dulcy Mendjiadeu Fankam scored 10 straight in a fourth-quarter rally to lead South Florida (6-3) to a win at VCU (5-4).

VCU built a 27-26 halftime lead to 16 with a 15-0 run and led 49-36 heading into the fourth quarter.

TCU 87, No. 18 Texas A&M 75: Lauren Heard scored a season-high 33 points, Aja Holmes added a career-high 22 off the bench, and host TCU (4-4) surprised Texas (9-2).

The Horned Frogs struck early, taking a 19-12 lead through the first quarter before outscoring the Aggies 23-10 in the second quarter for a 20-point halftime lead. The Aggies trailed by 23 points early in the fourth quarter but closed to within 71-53 with 5:53 remaining.

Villanova 56, No. 23 Oregon State 52: Lior Garzon knocked down back-toback 3-pointers to kick off the second half, Maddy Siegrist scored 28 points and host Villanova (5-5) broke away to defeat Oregon State (5-3).

The Wildcats, after 11 lead changes and five ties in the first half, led all the way through the second, fending off Oregon State in the final 22 seconds when Brianna Herlihy and Siegrist made 3 of 4 free throws to clinch it.

No. 22 Notre Dame 78, Purdue Fort Wayne 41: Olivia Miles scored seven of her 12 points to help open the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run for host Notre Dame, and the Irish (9-2) breezed past Purdue Fort Wayne (4-6).

Notre Dame remains unbeaten at home (5-0) placing six in double-figure scoring. Miles, Sonia Citron and Maya Dodson each scored 12, Dodson with five blocked shots. Anaya Peoples and Abby Prohaska scored 10 each and Maddy Westbeld added 11.

No. 24 LSU 96, Texas Southern 55: Faustine Aifuwa scored 14 points, Khayla Painter added 13 and host LSU (7-1) coasted to a win over Texas Southern (0-6).
