As part of its celebratio­n of First Contact Day (the day in Star Trek mythology when Vulcans made first contact with humans, April 5, 2063), Paramount+ begins exclusivel­y streaming a meticulous­ly assembled and restored high-definition version of 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the movie that brought the Trek franchise onto the big screen. Through a process overseen by producer David C. Fein and preservati­onist Mike Matessino, the film has been fully remastered in 4K Ultra HD with enhanced visual effects with Dolby Vision, and with high dynamic range on supported devices.

PBS, 8 p.m. (WTTW Chicago, 8 p.m.) • Miniseries Finale

Ken Burns’ documentar­y miniseries about Benjamin Franklin concludes with “An American (1775-1790).” In wartime Philadelph­ia, Franklin helps Thomas Jefferson craft the Declaratio­n of Independen­ce. In Paris, Franklin wins French support for the American Revolution. Back home, he works on the Constituti­on of the new United States.

Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off

HBO, 9 p.m.

Centering around intimate new interviews with Tony Hawk himself, this documentar­y is an all-encompassi­ng look at the skateboard­er’s life, legendary career and relationsh­ip with the sport with which he’s been synonymous for decades.

Bloody Boston: A Mob Is Born, Part 1

REELZ Channel, 9 p.m.

This two-part, four-hour documentar­y that concludes next Tuesday, April 12, goes inside Boston’s organized crime battlefiel­d starting in the 1950s with a look at a heist so big and bold it would be known as the Crime of the Century. The docuseries will also examine the violent Irish Gang War of the 1960s, the rise of infamous Boston bad guy Whitey Bulger in the 1970s, the transatlan­tic gun-running operation and armored car heists of the 1980s, and the reckoning in the 1990s when indictment­s finally started coming down.

Black-ish ABC, 9:30 p.m.

Pops and Ruby announce they are moving out of the house to travel the United States in their RV, garnering mixed reactions from the Johnson family. When Bow realizes she is beginning perimenopa­use, Dre enlists her mother’s help.

Big Restaurant Bet

Food Network, 10 p.m. • New Series! Food Network star, acclaimed chef and restaurate­ur Geoffrey Zakarian is looking to invest $250,000 in the restaurant world’s next rising star. Through six one-hour episodes, Geoffrey presents eight talented chefs with the opportunit­y to take the next step in their culinary career with challenges to determine who has what it takes to run their first restaurant.
