How to get a deal on new Phoenix-San Diego flights

- Michael Salerno

Starting in August, you can fly from Phoenix to San Diego with a carrier whose check-in, security and boarding processes take only minutes.

JSX has announced new, twice-daily nonstop flights to San Diego from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The flights will debut Aug. 18.

The air carrier also will add one more daily flight between Phoenix and Burbank, California, to meet increased demand for the route.

JSX describes itself as a “hop-on” air carrier that offers the convenience of private jet travel at prices comparable to public airlines.

It flies out of private terminals, including Sky Harbor’s Swift Terminal, where passengers can go from parking their cars to boarding the plane without the traffic and potential long waits at terminals 3 and 4.

JSX increases its Phoenix service

The new flights position Sky Harbor as a growing hub for JSX. Besides San Diego and Burbank, it offers service from Sky Harbor to Las Vegas and Oakland, California.

JSX added these flights to meet travel demand that has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, JSX CEO Alex Wilcox said in a statement.

“We look forward to continuing to provide our customers with readily accessible hassle-free flights that quickly get them out of the airport and into the action with no dwell time,” Wilcox said.

Get Phoenix-San Diego low fare

Fares for the new Phoenix to San Diego flights start at $179 one way. That includes at least two checked bags, onboard cocktails and gourmet snacks.

A search on JSX’s website showed the introductory fare is available for

flights through March 31.

As for flights between Phoenix and Burbank, airfares range from $217 to $269.

What flying JSX is like

San Diego is a popular vacation spot for Arizonans, but chances are those who’ve traveled there haven’t flown with an air carrier like JSX.

JSX uses 30-seat jets that boast business-class legroom, power outlets in each row and no middle seats.

Because JSX uses small planes and private terminals, customers can check in just 20 minutes before their flight, in contrast with Transportation Security Administration recommendations to arrive two to three hours before a scheduled departure.
