Arizona ski resorts: Here’s where you can hit the slopes

Skiers, rejoice: Winter is on its way to Arizona’s biggest ski resorts.

Arizona Snowbowl, in the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff, has moved up its opening date. It planned to open for the 2022-23 season on Nov. 17.That’s one day earlier than its originally announced date. As of Nov. 15, Snowbowl’s website was reporting a base snow depth of 16 inches.

Sunrise Park Resort, which is on the Fort Apache Reservatio­n in the White Mountains about 220 miles east of central Phoenix, began making snow in October and is on track for a Dec. 2 opening.

Arizona Snowbowl 2022-2023 season

Opening day: The season was scheduled to kick off on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Only advanced and intermedia­te runs were expected to be available on opening day; these include Upper Ridge, Midway Catwalk, Logjam and Wild Turkey. More of Snowbowl’s 55 runs will open as weather conditions allow. For more informatio­n, check Snowbowl’s snow report.

Lift tickets: Arizona Snowbowl ticket prices are based on date and demand. Opening day tickets are currently priced at $29 each; $19 tickets are available for later dates including Nov. 28

Gear rentals: Skis, poles, snowboards and boots can be reserved online with your ticket. Ski and snowboard rentals start at $30 each.

Sunrise Park Resort 2022-2023 season

Opening day: Sunrise Park’s tentative start is scheduled for Dec. 2. Snowmaking started Oct. 23.

Lift tickets: Price varies by age, date and type of ticket, for half-day or fullday

admission. Weekend and holiday admission will cost more than weekday admission. Prices for 2022-23 day passes are not yet available; check the resort’s website for more informatio­n. Season passes are available.

Gear rentals: The resort offers ski rental packages for $45 with skis, boots and poles and snowboard rental packages for $50 with a snowboard and boots.
