GOP in Congress has no intent of handling inflation

- Bobbie Bookhout, Tempe

The GOP under Kevin McCarthy will have a thin margin of control in the next Congress. Although the GOP campaigned in the midterms on inflation, the economy and crime, will they address these issues in the new Congress?

No. Instead, they will launch meaningless partisan investigations into Hunter Biden, Afghanistan withdrawal, the FBI warrant on Mar-a-Lago, the Homeland Security secretary and COVID-19 origins.

Nothing on how they’ll reduce inflation, bring down gasoline prices, help the homeless, reduce crime, increase funding for law enforcement, stop the onerous tariffs on China, increase funding to the military, or anything that will make life a bit easier for the average American.

Why would anyone vote for these people?

Edward Murphy, Mesa

Candidates, do you want a recount? Then you pay for it

Suggestion to political candidates: If you want recounts after an election then you need to provide the funding. No more using taxpayer money! Set up a Go Fund Me page or get the money from your political party. Our tax dollars can be put to better use.

Ponder yourself, Kari Lake, and understand why people dislike you

While Kari Lake continues to spit venom in every direction, with Trump-like threats to overthrow the election in which she was validly defeated, she would do well to take a brief moment of self-reflection and see that she comes across as arrogant, obnoxious and narcissistic, which probably helped defeat her as much as anything.

Massive switch to cultivated meat helps save our planet Earth

In a landmark ruling destined to save billions of animal and human lives, the

Food and Drug Administration has ruled Wednesday that meat cultivated from animal cells is safe to eat. The ruling was granted to Upside Foods, funded by Bill Gates and Richard Branson, but also by meat industry giants Cargill and Tyson Foods.

In the past decade, the cultivatedmeat industry has grown to more than 150 companies on six continents, backed by $2.6 billion in investments. They all grow meat from animal cells in clean manufacturing plants, rather than in cruel filthy factory farms.

An estimated 70 billion animals are macerated or suffocated at birth or raised in tiny cages each year to produce today's animal meat and dairy offerings. Consumption of these products has been linked conclusively with elevated incidence of killer diseases.

Production of animal-based foods pollutes our waterways and groundwater supplies, destroys wildlife habitats, and accounts for 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.

The forthcoming massive switch from animal agriculture to plant-based and cultivated meat and dairy products offers a truly monumental change in kindness to animals, human health, environmental pollution and global warming.

Right on cue, Kari Lake is denying the election she lost

Not again!

Yes, it’s time to relive the idiocy of Trump election-denialism, only this time it’s taking place in Arizona. It seems that Kari Lake is the female version of Trump with her rant over her recent loss.

She will soon make Arizona the laughing stock of the country with her refusal to a accept defeat. She made it blatantly obvious before the election that if she lost she would claim fraud.

She’s the quintessential Trump minion, imitating his every move. Perhaps Lake will have her lemmings storm our own Capitol?

Trump is no longer worthy to hold the White House

Indicting Donald Trump would be an action that honors all law-abiding, taxpaying citizens.

You can pick the indictment you feel strongest about: interference in the Georgia election, inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot or stolen government documents.

There's also a reason someone's tax returns have been kept hidden for so long through many court cases.

Citizens have not threatened violence although months and years have passed while the former president speaks out and is free. Broken precent is discouraging for those who respect and honor good government, norms rather than chaos and corruption.

While some, including the former president, insinuate there will be violence if and hopefully when indictments occur, there is another side to honoring the many who deserve to see accountability. A man who flouts subpoenas and hides through court battles is not someone who deserves respect and certainly not public office.
