Phillip Edward Allen December 1, 1947 - October 19, 2022

A familiar face in living rooms across the valley during the eighties and nineties, Phil was a true TV journalist, dedicating thirty years to reporting and anchoring the news. He obtained a degree with high honors in Journalism from Michigan State University. Phil began his news career at his hometown station in Decatur, Illinois, continuing during his Army service as an instructor in the Television Department at the Defense Information School near Indianapolis, and as Chief of the American Forces Radio-TV Station in Tehran, Iran. Once in Arizona, Phil anchored and reported for KOLDTV in Tucson 1973-76, and in Phoenix, KOOL-TV 1976-77, KTVK-TV 1977-84, KPNX-TV 1984-92.

The veteran announcer was past Chairman of Scout-0-Rama, the biggest single fund-raiser for the Theodore Roosevelt Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was also a board member of the Arizona chapter of the American Federation of Television Radio Artists and the Arizona Production Association, a member of the Community Advisory Board for Sun Sounds Radio Reading Service for the Blind, and he served on the City of Phoenix Transportation Advisory Committee. After retiring from local news, Phil launched a successful second career. Known as “the voice of distinction”, he was the talent behind hundreds of commercials, documentaries, sales and training videos, promotional spots for TV and radio stations around the country, and was featured in many film and television productions.

Phil loved cooking, good food, friends, golf, snow skiing, the outdoors, and his family. He was a terrific Grandpa to his Grandchildren Jake and Max Jamison, and an important father figure to his adopted daughter Shelly Jamison (Victor Armendariz). Most of all Phil was deeply dedicated to his wife of 46 years Elin Jeffords. He will be remembered for his easy going manner, love of a good joke, and the joy he took in small pleasures. A genuinely kind and uncomplicated man, Phil will be deeply missed.
