Frederick Sheesley Heeney

SCOTTSDALE – On November 10th, Frederick Sheesley Heeney of Scottsdale passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Fred was born in 1939 to William and Fonanda Heeney in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. He is preceded in death by his beloved son Doug and wife Barbara of 57 years, and is survived by his son Mike and grandson Braden (Juiju) of North Carolina, granddaughter Xoe of South Carolina, brother John (Carol) of Toronto and brother-inlaw Dave Horton (Linda) of Ottawa.

Fred and Barb are both graduates of Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa where they first met. Fred later graduated from the University of Georgia and the University of Illinois. He spent most of his professional life overseas as an Employee Relations executive, living with his family in Puerto Rico, Tokyo Japan, Indonesia and Hong Kong. Fred was affiliated with numerous professional and charitable organizations over the years, perhaps most notably through his service as Secretary, Vice President and then President of the American Club in Hong Kong from 1987-1992.

With a spirit of adventure, determined optimism, and a generous heart, Fred lived large by any measure. Fred was naturally curious about the world and the personal stories of anyone that he met. People were drawn to him. His presence filled any room.

On his passing Fred said the following: “I do not want anyone to mourn me. I have had a terrific life and hope I have brought smiles and joy to many that I met over the years. I am off to join Barb and Doug, and will continue to look down on Mike, Xoe and Braden.”

In keeping with Fred’s wishes there will be no funeral, and his remains have been donated for the benefit of others. In lieu of flowers, please do something kind in Fred’s honor.
