- Alex Suarez

“When I got on to the run I just didn’t really have anything left in the tank. It felt like survival from the moment we started. Thankfully I had a big enough buffer that I could hold on.”

Joe Skipper of Great Britain won the 2022 Biostarks Ironman Arizona Triathlon.

Skipper completed the Tempe course (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run) with a preliminary time of 7 hours 46 minutes and 0 seconds. Skipper was three minutes faster than second place finisher Matthew Hanson who finished at 7 hours 49 minutes and 48 seconds. Arizona’s own Ben Kanute finished third at 7 hours 51 minutes and 25 seconds.

Skipper wasn’t expecting them to go as fast as they did on the bikes.

“We biked a lot harder than what I was expecting to,” said Skipper. “When I got on to the run I just didn’t really have anything left in the tank. It felt like survival from the moment we started. Thankfully I had a big enough buffer that I could hold on.”

Skipper had won at Ironman Wales earlier this year.

Sarah True of New Hampshire was the women’s 2022 Biostarks Ironman Arizona Triathlon winner.

True finished with a time of 8 hours 42 minutes and 38 seconds. Skye

Moench was second, finishing with a preliminary time of 8 hours 47 minutes and 28 seconds. Danielle Lewis finished third with a preliminary time of 9 hours 3 minutes and 18 seconds.

True and Moench finished the bike leg together and the two kept exchanging leads early on the run leg.

“I felt pretty strong going into the race,” said True. “I just wanted to pace it well and put it together. Until you cross the finish line you just don’t know what’s going to happen.”
