SCOTTSDALE – On the morning of November 4, 2022, Bernice A. Toronto died peacefully at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Bernie was born in 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvan­ia to Joseph and Mary Havranek and was a true coal miners’ daughter. She graduated from Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh with her Nursing Degree. In her younger days, she loved to listen to big bands and dance the night away. In 1958, she married Nicholas (who fondly calls her Bunny) and they spent many years exploring and cruising around many parts of the world. Early in her life, she worked as a Registered Nurse and a Real Estate agent. Her true passion was travel. She opened Toronto’s Travel agency with her son and enjoyed many years planning exotic trips for clients, relishing in their stories upon return. She loved Christmas (affectiona­tely known as Mrs. Claus), collecting Angels, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r. Bernie is preceded in death by her parents, sister (Marie) and her grandson (Alexander). She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Nicholas Toronto, daughter Tami, son Nicholas (Colette), grandchild­ren Lindsay (Paul) and Nicolette (Harrison), great-granddaugh­ters Arabelle and Olive, brother-in-law James, nephew Tim (Julianne), niece Karen (Bill), and close friends, Steve (Theresa) and Jamie.

The Celebratio­n of Life Service is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 1 pm at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. Also, live streaming video of the service. (live.pvumc.org).
