Steve and more pets up for adoption in Phoenix-area shelters this week
Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Steve: A blossoming pup
It has been over a month since adorable Steve made his way to the Arizona Humane Society in mid-December. The 20-pound Chihuahua mix was found by a Good Samaritan who knew he needed help due to a large laceration on the side of his chest and knew to turn to AHS for help.
Upon intake, the 10-year-old pup was evaluated in AHS’ trauma hospital where he received routine care including daily wound cleaning, bandage changes and surgery to close his injury once he was stable enough. Over the course of his medical stay, Steve also underwent a dental procedure and a feeding schedule to help him gain weight.
The lovable boy also spent time in a Foster Hero home where he was able to continue growing his strength each day until he was finally ready to find his forever home.
Steve may be a senior but he still is working to come out of his shell and is doing a great job of it each day. Those who know him say that is a very sweet boy who can be a little introverted at times but is looking forward to the day his forever family lets him blossom into the happy, healthy doggo he was always meant to be.

His adoption fee includes his neuter surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a free follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital.
