William Robert Clardy, age 98, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He had a “life well lived” and is home now with the Lord and his beloved wife, Mary, of 65 years. Bill was the first born child to Edwin James Clardy and Jessica Fay (Tilden) Clardy in Los Angeles, CA, on August 27, 1924. He was a great big brother to his 3 sisters that followed. Bill enlisted in the Navy during WWII. He was a true patriot and loved serving his country, he appreciate­d the personal discipline and lifelong lessons he learned in the Navy. After the war ended, he attended UCLA and received his degree in Accounting. Bill was a natural salesman and most of his career was in sales. Bill loved growing up in southern California and spent lots of time at the beach. He met the love of his life, Mary, at Manhattan Beach on the volleyball court. They married in 1954, had 3 children and enjoyed a wonderful life together. In 1970 they moved to Scottsdale, AZ, from West Covina, CA. Bill studied and switched careers at age 50 to become a Stock Broker. He was passionate about this career and enjoyed helping his clients. He retired after 26 years, at age 76. Bill was a lifelong learner, attended many workshops and seminars, and loved to read books in his later years. Bill loved his family very much and wanted the best for his kids and grandkids, he provided a stable and welcoming home life. He was an avid hiker and backpacker with his sons, Bob and Don, while they were in Boy Scouts. There were many family vacations and he and Mary travelled overseas several times. He always maintained a positive attitude, was a lot of fun to be with, and always up for adventures. An amazing man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Rick), sons Bob (Nancy), Don, grandchild­ren, 2 sisters, nieces and nephews. He is dearly missed but we are so thankful for his long healthy life and the wisdom he imparted to us. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85251. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, @10:00am at Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 4140 N. Miller Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85251, followed by interment at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
