MESA – February 6, 1929 - November 18, 2022

Robert Charles Dougherty CLU, was born on February 6, 1929, in Freeport, IL and passed away on November 18, 2022 in Mesa, AZ. He was 93 years old and told us many times that he had ‘had a great life’.

Bob was an Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict and is survived by his beloved wife Irene (Toman) whom he met while stationed in Port Townsend, WA.

He is also survived by their four children, Tim, Mike (Jean Lentz), Brian, and Colleen (Keith) Wallock, grandchildren, Mariah, Kristen, Jessica, and Keelan, as well as extended family grandchildren Jennifer and Taylor.

Always proud of his Irish Catholic heritage, Bob was born to William and Loretta Dougherty in Freeport, IL and was one of nine children. He is survived by his sister Pat (Carey), brother Jack, and sister-in-law Beverly. Siblings preceding him in death include William, Earl, Leo, Leon (infant), James (infant), and Kenneth.

After serving in the Army, Bob returned to IL and began work with Bankers Mutual Life Insurance Company. He would eventually move to Mesa AZ with his family and retire there after a long career with New York Life Insurance Company.

Bob spent many happy years of retirement in both Mesa, and in Christopher Creek, AZ at a longtime owned family cabin.

A blessing from Ireland with all your family’s love: “Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near Still loved, still missed, and very dear. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
