If you’re wondering about the cast on Ian Schwartz’s arm, wonder no more.

The meteorologist for Arizona’s Family wrecked his bike on Feb. 27 and broke his arm in two places.

The crash doesn’t seem to have damaged his attitude. “I was trying to get exercise, you know?” Schwartz said Monday after his shift on “Good Morning Arizona.” “That’s what I get for trying to be healthy.”

There was nothing particularly noteworthy about the accident, Schwartz (who was wearing a helmet), said. “All of a sudden I’m flying off the bike.” He flew over the handlebars and “landed just perfectly the wrong way. I guess I did it pretty good.”

Will Ian Schwartz miss any air time on Arizona’s Family?

Schwartz hasn’t missed any air time so far. And while he broke his right arm, he is, at least, left-handed.

“Everything takes a little longer,” Schwartz said. “Work is still doable for the most part. No gym stories or cartwheels or anything like that. But I can still manage most things.”

His preparation for work is a little different. He typically wakes up at 3:15 a.m., but his injury requires him to get up a half-hour earlier to give him more time to shower and put on a suit. He’s switched to sneakers, which isn’t the only sartorial concession he has made.

“I just said forget about the tie,” Schwartz said. “I’m not even wearing a tie right now. I literally can’t tie a tie. I thought maybe this is the time when I invest in some clip-ons.”

He’s also made some concessions to age. “When you’re a teenage and this happens it’s cute,” Schwartz said. “You get sympathy and people sign your cast. When you do it when you’re 42, it’s not so cute and not so fun. Maybe I need to go back to walking or stay in the gym.”

Since he broke a couple of bones in his forearm, he is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, March 7 and expects to be off the air for at least a week as he recovers.
