Highest home on south side of Camelback sells for $5.25 million

The highest Phoenix home on the south side of Camelback Mountain and a Paradise Valley house formerly owned by utility founder George Johnson were among the priciest metro Phoenix houses to sell during the third week of February.

$10,200,000

An Alberta, Canada, group called 2492241 Alberta Ltd paid cash for a new 9,300-square-foot Paradise Valley mansion. The house with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms sits on 2.6 acres and has custom French Oak doors, cabinets and flooring. The home also comes with Lorca marble and Belgian bluestone tile and has a library, a gym, a game room, a guest house and a lighted putting green. 5450 Arcadia Lane LLC was the seller. George Johnson owned the property for a couple of decades until 2020. He ran an embattled water and sewer company serving the East Valley that was sold in 2021.

A New York LLC named after the address of this Phoenix home paid cash. The mansion is the highest home on the south side of Camelback Mountain. The double-gated estate on 3.5 acres comes with Roman statues, marble lions at the entrance, two curving staircases, an indoor balcony overlookin­g the living room, a 750-gallon aquarium, a theater, a gym, a bar and a kitchen designed to look like an Italian street. Frank and Vicki Mineo were the sellers. Frank Mineo Sr. bought the house in 1992 after selling a pet-store chain to Petco. Rosie Derryberry of RETSY had the listing.

Mark and Laurie Shuholm of Oregon paid cash for a 6,482-square-foot new modern farmhouse in north Scottsdale’s Mirabel community. He is president of the recycling firm Northwest Polymers. The house with five bedrooms and 5 1⁄2 bathrooms recently got a $300,000 landscape makeover. Terrence Larsen was the seller.

Neil and Mara Reithinger bought a 7,694-square-foot Paradise Valley house with five bedrooms and 5 1⁄2 bathrooms. He is the president of Eventus Advisory Group, a finance and accounting firm. The Spanish colonial home comes with a statement fireplace in the living room, two offices, a temperatur­e-controlled wine room and a guest suite with a bar and separate garage. David Grounds and Ellen Houx sold it.

$3,700,000

Michael and Kacie Hitchcock purchased a 5,509-square-foot home with four bedrooms and 4 1⁄2 bathrooms in north Scottsdale. The house situated on a 2.5-acre lot has a rooftop deck and an iron spiral staircase. The DAM Trust was the seller.
