Patricia Zimmerman Hushek

-

Patricia was born on June 18, 1926 in Beaver Dam,

Wisconsin. Her parents were Alex and Josephine Zimmerman.

Pat attended St. Peter’s Elementary School, and Beaver Dam High School. She enjoyed sports from an early age. Her high school yearbook says her nickname was “Zimmie”.

In 1944, she began her nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She graduated in 1947. She received her Nurses Accreditation in 1948 and began working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Beaver Dam. She continued her nursing career in Saratoga Springs, New York, to be near her sister Phyllis. She worked at Woods Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee from 1951 to 1952.

On December 23, 1951, she met her future husband and love of her life Charles (Chuck) Hushek, through a mutual friend. They were engaged two months later, and married on August 2, 1952. They spent their honeymoon in Niagara Falls. Their marriage blossomed and lasted 36 years. Unfortunately, Chuck passed away in 1988.

She and Chuck raised four sons in Milwaukee and Phoenix. She was very proud of the fact that all four attended Catholic schools St. Thomas and Brophy College Prep, and that all four sons are college graduates.

Pat was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling leagues with Chuck for many years. She belonged to St. Thomas Sodality Bowling League. In addition, she loved playing golf with her regular group at Thunderbird Country Club in Phoenix. Pat and Chuck regularly attended and truly enjoyed ASU football, basketball, and baseball games. Pat and Chuck enjoyed traveling, especially for his company Phoenix Heat Treating, Inc.

Pat is survived by her older sister Phyllis Gentzen, her sister-in-law Carol Hushek; her beloved sons Joseph (Kathleen), Michael (Kathleen), Peter (Pam), and Brian. Her beloved grandchildren Nicholas (Allison), Emily (Adam), Charlie (Alexandra), Kelsey (Trevor), and Grant (Alessia) and her great grandchildren: Connor, Madilynn, and Wesley. She has many nieces and nephews.

Upon Chuck’s passing, Pat focused on her family and St. Thomas Sodality. She lived by the principle of love for your fellow man. She lived a full life of 96 years, and died peacefully at home on March 1, 2023.

A memorial mass will be held at St Thomas the Apostle Church on May 20, 2023 at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to her favorite charities: St Jude Hospital and the Make a Wish Foundation.
