Lester “Bud” Poos

-

MESA – Our country has lost one of the most patriotic WWII veterans with the recent passing of Lester “Bud” Poos after a long , productive life at the age of 98.

At the age of 17, Bud volunteered for the US Marine Corps to protect our country against hostile nations. Corporal Poos fought bravely, losing many of his comrades to the enemy. Our dad spent his whole life honoring and respecting his country.

Dad was born to Cordelia and Frank Poos on April 7, 1925 in Springfield, Illinois. He was a brother to the late Betty Becker and Julia Ann Weidman.

After the service, Dad became an employee of Illinois Bell telephone where he met his bride of 75 years, Mary. He was a well-respected manager. Many long-time friends evolved from his long tenure at Illinois Bell.

During his years in both Illinois and Arizona, dad was an active community member. He was always contributing to those in need. Whether it be for school children, food banks, mentally challenged adults or disabled veterans dad was there to serve.

After retirement, Dad moved from Peoria, Illinois to Gilbert Az . Dad enjoyed the year-long sunshine and golfing with his brother-in-laws.

Dad leaves behind his loving wife Mary and three children, Paula (George), Pamela (Frankie) and Mark (Yvonne). They all reside in Arizona.

He also leaves a legacy of love to grandchildren, Nick Keller, Tyler and Tim Galloway.

Nephew Steven Weidman and Grandchild Sean Poos preceded him in death.

His great grandchildren, Zane Keller, Grady, Gretta, Cody, Ryan and Grayson Galloway will forever treasure the memory of his sense of humor and love for America.

Dad created many wonderful memories with his long-time Einstein friends. They never missed an opportunity to solve the problems of the world with their morning coffee.

To honor our dad, we ask that, in his memory, you stand proudly and sing our national patriotic songs, salute the American flag and thank a veteran for their service.

Semper Fi, Dad, Semper Fi.

A private military service will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona.
