SCOTTSDALE – Allene Sherman Arle passed away peacefully August 11, 2023 at the age of 103, surrounded by her family. Allene was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

Allene was born in Leander, Texas on May 19, 1920 to Clarence and Louisa Sherman. The Sherman family moved to Harlingen, Texas when Allene was 6 years old. Her mother passed away when Allene was 12 years old. She was then raised by her father and older sister, Clarice. Allene went through grade and high school in Harlingen and then enrolled in Texas State College for Women. As a young woman, Allene worked at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she met H. Fred Arle, a Naval pilot and flight instructor. They were married in Corpus Christi September 30, 1942 and were stationed at Naval Bases in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and California during WWII. At the end of WWII, Fred, Allene and their daughter, Pam, moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where Fred began a new career with the University of Arizona Cotton Research Center.

Allene was a stay-at-home Mom to Pam and her younger brother John. She loved decorating her home for the holidays. She was an excellent seamstress, decorative painter and enjoyed any type of needlework. As her children grew up, she worked part time in the bookstore at Camelback High School. She loved to play bridge and gin rummy with her friends. Family and friends were always welcome in her home.

Allene was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Fred Arle, her sister Clarice and husband Roddy James. Allene is survived by her daughter Pam Webb (Jim) in Scottsdale, son John Arle in Eugene, Oregon, grandson Nicholas William Arle in San Diego, California, nephews Rodney James (Shary) of Cave Springs, Arkansas and their family and Duke James (Gretchen) of Beaumont, Texas and their family. Allene will be missed greatly and live in our hearts with sweetest of memories forever.
