PINE – Mary Jane Coffee passed away at her beloved cabin in Pine, Arizona, on September 29, 2023, with her three daughters and two dogs surrounding her in the place she loved most. She was born in Ishpeming, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on March 16, 1929 where she enjoyed bowling, time on the lake, and archery. Mary Jane (MJ) was an avid and talented water skier. She longed to live somewhere warm, so in 1968, she moved to Arizona with her three young children. She loved the state from the minute she arrived; first, the beauty of the desert and then the majestic Mogollon Rim.??

On a trip through Pine in the early 70’s, she became enthralled with its beauty and was determined to buy land and build her place there. She made that happen. Not afraid of hard work, she was involved in every aspect of the job, from drawing the blueprints to carrying blocks to finishing massive beams to adding her custom-designed stained glass windows.

?While in Arizona, MJ enjoyed camping, country music, creating stained glass, and squeezing every bit of fun out of life. She loved to travel the world. Her favorite place was the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Her passion for wine grew from Carlo Rossi to becoming a connoisseur of fine red wine. Her last trip, in April, was a memorable one to the breathtaking California wine country with her three daughters. She was feisty, spunky, fun-loving, and a great mother. Her daughters will always treasure the love of Pine that she instilled in them and the legacy she left them.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert P. Maki, and second husband, Stephan J. Coffee, and survived by her three daughters: Diane (Jeff) Habel, Gail (David) Maki Wilson, and Teal (Mike) Hersker. Grandchildren, Cody Wilson, Bailey Wilson Collins, Brynn Habel, Logan Wilson, Jaren Habel, and three great-grandchildren. Mary Jane will rest at the Pine Cemetery. She loved and saved many dogs over the years and requested that any donations in her memory go to the Payson Humane Society.
