Emma Jane Gray

-

SCOTTSDALE – Jane was born on January 14, 1937, just a few minutes before her twin sister Jean. Her parents were Harry Logan and Carrie Green, both school teachers. While young girls in Geneva, Ohio, the twins did everything they were told not to do; play in the barn, in the swamp and on the train tracks. After WWII the family started west, with Jane’s parents making several stops teaching in small town schools. They finally settled in Sanders, Arizona. The twins graduated from high school there and headed to ASU for college, destined to become teachers like their parents.

Jane met her future husband, Robert Gray, while at ASU. They were married upon her graduation in a double wedding with Jean and her fiancé at the First Congregational Church of Tempe, where she remained a life-time loyal member until the church closed. Jane and Bob raised 3 sons in their South Scottsdale home.

Jane taught 1st Grade and Kindergarten for many years in the Scottsdale School District, including several years before retirement at Pueblo School. Jane and Bob loved to travel and play bridge. Their retirement plans though were cut short with Bob’s early death in 2000. Jane, however, found a wonderful companion in Ian MacRae, a long-time friend of Jane and Bob’s. Jane and Ian later married and travelled the world. After Ian’s passing, Jane kept traveling with her children and grandchildren, and was a serious bridge player up until weeks before her death.

Jane is survived by her sister Jean Hall, sons David, Andy and Nelson, daughter-in-law Sue Gray, son-in-law Omar Foster, and her grandsons Jackson Gray and Isaac Gray. Services are planned for October 11, 10am at Desert Palm UCC, Tempe.
