– Marlys Yvonne Walker was a cherished educator and world traveler who passed away on January 5th, 2024 at the age of 93. Born in Maddock, North Dakota in 1930, she completed her standard degree in Education at Minot State College and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education from the University of Puget Sound in Washington State in 1969. She married Robert “Bob” Walker in 1951 and together they explored all seven continents and numerous countries and islands.

Marlys devoted her career to teaching third grade at Sunnycrest Elementary in Kent, Washington and Acacia Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona, earning the respect and admiration of countless students and fellow educators alike. She is survived by her twin sister Estelle, two sons Mark and Greg, two grandsons Joshua and Jefferey, five great-grandchild­ren, several nephews, nieces, and numerous cousins who have been touched by her kindness and generosity over the years.

The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the exceptiona­l caregivers at Brookdale Foundation House in Federal Way, Washington, as well as the compassion­ate staff at Franciscan Hospice of University Place, Washington. Rest in peace, dear Marlys. Your spirit will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing you, and your memory will continue to inspire us all to live life with courage, compassion, and an unquenchab­le thirst for adventure.
