Charles Wesley Webb
GILBERT – Charles Wesley Webb, 90, passed away peacefully December 28, 2023 in Gilbert, Arizona. Charlie was born and raised in Phoenix to Wesley and Vivian Webb and had four siblings. At a young age he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served two terms.
Following his military service, he enrolled at Phoenix College and was a member of the 1962 National Junior College Championship Baseball Team. He transferred to and graduated from University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education.
Charlie had a love for baseball and in the 1950’s he coached several City and American Legion baseball teams. In 1960 thru 1963 he coached Stewart Motors, a semi-pro baseball team that won several state titles and attended the national tournament in Wichita, KS three times.
Following college, he began his career at Camelback High School in Phoenix and served as its head baseball coach from 1965 to 1986 where his teams were Divisional Champions 6 times and State Runner-Up in 1985, retiring from coaching and teaching in 1995. His success as a coach earned him entry into the Arizona High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 1988. Charlie was known to have and maintain one of the best baseball fields in the state, just ask his former players who had to stay after practices and games to keep it that way.
Charlie had a love for camping, fishing and hunting and built a family cabin in Greer, AZ in 1979 where he and his wife, Patsy, spent their summers. After retirement he also enjoyed being an assistant baseball coach at Scottsdale Community College and Corona del Sol High School and fitted in attending most all of his grandkids sporting events.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patsy, and their two children, David (Kellie) and Deanna. He is also survived by 3 siblings and 3 stepchildren, Debora, Dennis (Tina) and Douglas, and 4 grandchildren, Jacob (fiancé Lizzy) , Daniel, Bryan and Kacie. Services will be private.
