David E. Mars Jr.

PHOENIX – David (Dave) E. Mars Jr. Passed away February 1, 2024, after a brief illness, his life partner, companion and friend Carol Heider was with him as he took his last breath into eternity.

David was the cherished favorite son of David E & Mary Kay Mars, Dave was born October 28, 1961, in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He followed his parents to Tempe, Arizona in 1971. He became a Boy Scout early on and had a passion for doing the right thing, regardless of whether anyone was looking or not, he was 1 merit badge from becoming an Eagle Scout. One of his most inspiring tasks was hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with his dad. He graduated from Marcos De Niza High School in 1979.

As a youngster he worked at many different places before landing a job at Motorola as a utilities man learning a treacherous trade in a perilous industry. It wasn’t long after he followed his passion of becoming one of the best Tin Men around working for Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 359.

David was preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his life partner of 29 years Carol Heider, her brothers Jerry and Rick. His sisters Jill Thomas (Ryan), Judy Quick, Margaret DeLong (Leon). His nieces & nephews Madison, Jackie, Zach, Robert, Sadie, Nathan, Carston and Tyler.

Dave’s favorite meal was at Fleming’s Steakhouse. He also loved Thanksgiving with all the trimmings and Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant.

He enjoyed a good Superbowl football pool, camping in Pine and playing ball with his dog Shadow. Most of all he had developed a love of being out on the water drowning a worm, minnow or lure and waiting for the big one to come nibble. He was good at it too, catching humongous crappies and trout, occasionally, the hook would untie itself and come loose, and the 6-pound Rainbow Trout (the catch of a lifetime) would disappear into the depths of Woods Canyon Lake never to be seen again.

Whether you knew him as Dave, David or Tin Man along with his unique sense of humor he will be missed by many. We hope and pray that God rest his soul in heavenly peace with his family and friends who have already made the journey.
