DBacks reach agreement for games to be streamed by MLB

- Theo Mackie

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced a new streaming deal for the 2024 season on Thursday afternoon. Their games will be produced and distributed by Major League Baseball, as they were for the final two and a half months of last season, and stream on MLB.TV and DBacksTV.

The agreement means that fans in the Diamondbacks’ home television territory will be able to stream the club’s games on MLB.TV for $19.99 per month or $99.99 for the season. The MLB.TV package, with access to all games league-wide, is $39.99 per month or $199.99 for the season. That territory includes all of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, as well as parts of southern Nevada. Before last July, fans in those states were blacked out from streaming Diamondbacks’ games on the service.

Regular-season games will be available via linear distribution (meaning cable and satellite), though the club is still determining exactly what that will look like. Spring training games will only be distributed digitally through MLB.TV. The Diamondbacks said they plan to make five Cactus League games available, starting with the home opener on Saturday.

“We took time to weigh all of our broadcast options for the upcoming season and how they would each impact our fans,” Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall said in a statement. “MLB Media stepped in last year when we needed them to and ensured a seamless transition for all viewers. They reached more households than our prior partnership, improved production quality dramatically, and offered a top-of-the-line streaming product with no blackouts.”

The Diamondbacks are among three clubs whose games will be produced and distributed by MLB, along with the Padres and Rockies. All three clubs had their television rights dropped by the Diamond Sports Group — which owned the now-defunct Bally Sports Arizona — shortly after the company declared for bankruptcy last winter.

The television broadcasting team for this season will be Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly, as it has been for the past eight seasons. The radio crew will now feature Chris Garagiola, taking over playby-play duties from Greg Schulte, who retired after last season. Tom Candiotti is entering his 16th season as radio analyst, now alongside Garagiola.
