Eisenhower and more pets up for adoption

-

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Eisenhower: Pup cups and car rides will win his heart

As more and more pets pour into our shelters, the Arizona Humane Society continues to see a rise of amazing adoptable pets sitting on the adoption floor longer than they should. A prime example of this is the adorable Eisenhower.

Although he is not sure what politics are, this cutie is named after the 34th president of the United States. The sweet 8-year-old American Bulldog has been under the care of AHS since he was found as a sick stray in November. Rescued by one of AHS’ emergency animal medical technicians, Eisenhower was underweight and covered in wounds.

Treated in the shelter’s trauma hospital for wounds and put on a feeding schedule to help him gain weight, the floppy-eared pup has made an incredible recovery and never lost his endearing spirit along the way.

With being in the shelter for so long, he has made many friends, including the volunteers who have taken him on field trips all across the city — showing off his docile demeanor and love for car rides and pup cups. While still active, with an affinity for going on walks, Eisenhower also loves being a couch potato after a long day of sauntering around.

Interested adopters can meet the elegant Eisenhower at AHS’s South Mountain location. His adoption fee includes his neuter surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital.

Visit azhumane.org/adopt for more information.

Additionally, thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation, all dogs (including puppies) at all AHS locations have $0 adoption fees through Sunday, April 7.
