Northern Arizona University class of 2024 is getting ready to celebrate

The Northern Arizona University class of 2024 will be celebratin­g in May with their peers after many started their college careers in a global pandemic.

NAU, based in Flagstaff, is home to more than 28,000 students. While speakers for this year’s commenceme­nts have yet to be announced, last year’s lineup featured former Microsoft CEO and businessma­n Bill Gates.

Guests can download the NAUgo app to view weather informatio­n, maps and parking on commenceme­nt day or text “Hi” to 833-511-0151 to direct graduation questions to NAU’s chatbot “Cappy.”

When is NAU graduation?

Multiple NAU graduation ceremonies at the Skydome will take place on May 10 and 11, depending on which school the student attends.

May 10, 11 a.m.

● College of Health and Human Services

● College of Engineerin­g, Informatic­s, and Applied Sciences

May 10, 4 p.m.

● College of Education

● The W.A. Franke College of Business

May 11, 10 a.m.

● College of Arts and Letters

● College of Environmen­t, Forestry and Natural Sciences

● NAU Yuma

● Personaliz­ed Learning

May 11, 3 p.m.

● College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Tickets are required to attend the ceremony for all guests three years and older. Students can request tickets for up to eight guests beforehand. Ticket requests for Friday’s ceremony opened April 2 and requests for the Saturday ceremony open on April 8.

Doors will open 90 minutes before each ceremony. Students will be divided by “east” and “west” seating. Guests are recommende­d to sit in correspond­ing sections and arrive early.

What can I bring?

Guests will have to adhere to NAU’s clear bag policy which only allows clear bags or a 4.5-by-6.5-inch clutch purse.

This could include a gallon-sized plastic bag or a clear drawstring bag. Other prohibited items:

● Outside food or beverages (besides unopened water).

● Coolers.

● Tripods or selfie sticks.

● Any weapons or sharp objects.

● Balloons.

● Confetti.

● Airhorns.

Where should I park?

Parking is available at San Francisco Parking Garage, with shuttles available to the Skydome. Without taking the shuttle, the garage is an 11-minute walk to the Skydome. Detailed directions to campus, depending on where guests are traveling from, are available on NAU’s website.

Those using rideshare services like Uber or Lyft will need to meet at San Francisco parking garage for pick-up.
