Jonathan Henry Schwartz, 75, passed away on May 9, 2024, from liver cancer. He was born September 16, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvan­ia. He grew up in Pittsburgh and got his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1969. Jon then went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1970 to 1973 where he got his Juris Doctor Degree. At the urging of a very good family friend, Jon then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he passed the Arizona Bar and clerked for Justice Struckmeie­r. He then got a job as an attorney at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office under Bob Corbin. Jon worked there until he became a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge, a position he held from 1991 to 2007. After retirement from the bench, Jon started his own mediation business. He also continued working on a part-time basis for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office through 2022. Jon loved to travel and to play golf and was always true to his Pittsburgh Steelers and Michigan Wolverines. After moving to Phoenix, Jon also became a fan of Arizona sports teams. Jon was preceded in death by his parents William Schwartz and Corrinne Stafford (Schwartz; nee Moretsky). He is survived by his beloved wife Sandra Schwartz of Phoenix, and their children Corrinne Schwartz of Tempe, and Will Schwartz of Phoenix, and his two sisters, Willa Pendergras­t (Steve) and Amy Henry both of Boulder, Colorado. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road in Phx, AZ 85018. Reception following services to be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at Paradise Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Scottsdale, AZ.
