Reality ax falls on a few folks tied to Atlanta
But one who’s still in contention could be a big winner.
It was a rough week for reality show contestants with Atlanta ties this past week — with one exception. Here’s a quick summary of what happened.
Gladys Knight
On: ABC’S “Dancing With the Stars”
Survived: six weeks, until Tuesday’s episode
Why she lasted as long as she did: The R&B legend and Atlanta native classed up the joint, bringing grace, charm and maturity to her dances.
Why she was cut: She’s 69 years old and couldn’t keep up with younger, more nimble dancers.
Sarah Parrott
On: NBC’S “Fashion Star”
Survived: seven weeks, until Tuesday’s episode
Why she lasted as long as she did: Despite her lack of fashion experience, the 31-year-old Marietta stay-at-home mom wowed the buyer for H&M, who purchased a total of $300,000 worth of her clothing over five consecutive episodes.
Why she was cut: She couldn’t create clothing that appealed to the other two retailers, Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s.
Mathai
On: NBC’S “The Voice” Survived: into the quarterfinals until Tuesday’s episode
Why she lasted as long as she did: She’s cute, she’s young and she brings a jazzy, artsy flair to her vocals.
Why she was cut: The 19-year-old Dallas native, who moved to Atlanta a year ago, faced off against Katrina Parker, a more experienced belter who outsang Mathai Tuesday.
Pip
On: NBC’S “The Voice” Survived: into the quarterfinals until Monday’s episode
Why he lasted as long as he did: His coach, Adam Levine, loved the potential in his voice.
Why he was cut: The Marietta 19-year-old struggled to find a genre he was comfortable with and hit a few off notes on Monday singing “Somewhere Only We Know.”
Kim Nielsen
On: NBC’S “The Biggest Loser”
Survived: into the finals, which will air at 8 p.m. Tuesday
Why she might win it all: Going into the semifinals, the 38-year-old Norcross single mom had lost 105 pounds, going from 252 to 147 pounds. As a pro wrestler, she hurt her back in 2003 and started gaining weight. But her athletic background and competitive drive have led her to the point where she could win $250,000.
