Owls win share of A-sun crown

Kaylee Williams hit two solo home runs to help Kennesaw State beat Mercer 7-3 on Saturday in Kennesaw, giving the Owls at least a share of the Atlantic Sun regularsea­son title.

The win, the second of a doublehead­er sweep, also gives Kennesaw State a top-two seed in the upcoming conference tournament in Spartanbur­g, S.C.

Bianca Durant hit a three-run home run in the sixth, one of five hits in the inning for the Owls (30-22, 14-4).

Kennesaw State needed only five innings against the Bears (24-28, 5-13) to win 9-1 in Saturday’s first game. for seven home runs on the day. … Kyle Wren hit Georgia Tech’s first inside-the-park home run since 2005, but the Jackets (26-18, 10-13) lost 13-7 to Clemson (25-19, 13-10) in Atlanta. Wren, who hit his home run on Clemson’s first pitch of the game, finished with three hits. Brandon Thomas hit a three-run homer and Daniel Palka also hit a solo shot. Of the Jackets’ 33 homers this season, 10 have come in the past five games. … Zack Fenelty, Rick Scheff, Alec Clifford and Shawn Roberts finished ninth in the 3,200meter relay at the Penn Relays in Philadelph­ia.

Kevin Kyle pitched eight shutout innings but the Owls (28-19, 12-8 ASun) lost 2-1 to Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla. The Eagles (17-25, 89) bunted in the winning run off reliever Justin McCalvin. … Kendall Parks finished second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
