Seminoles roll over Deacons

Chris Thompson scored on runs of 74 and 80 yards on successive carries to lead No. 5 host Florida State to a 52-0 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday.

Thompson, who suffered a broken back at Wake Forest a year ago that nearly ended his career, already had a career-high 197 yards following his 80-yard touchdown run that put the Seminoles into a 28-0 lead with 9:42 remaining in the first half.

UConn 24, Maryland 21: Lyle McCombs and Scott McCummings both ran for touchdowns, and Nick Williams returned a punt for another score as Connecticu­t defeated host Maryland.

McCombs rushed for 94 yards and his fourthquar­ter touchdown. McCummings, who also came in at quarterbac­k occasional­ly, ran for a 3yard score that gave the Huskies a 14-0 first-half lead.

Miami 38, BethuneCoo­kman 10: Duke Johnson finished with four touchdowns, scoring them three different ways and leading host Miami past Bethune-Cookman.

Johnson had a 95-yard kick return for a score, a 50-yard touchdown reception and scoring runs of 1 and 28 yards.

No. 11 Clemson 41, Furman 7: Tajh Boyd threw for 310 yards and three touchdown passes, Sammy Watkins had a 58-yard touchdown run in his season debut and host No. 11 Clemson won its 30th straight over Furman.

Teddy Bridgewate­r threw three first-half touchdowns and host No. 19 Louisville scored on its first six possession­s, and then had to hold North Carolina with a late goalline stand to come away with a victory .

Northweste­rn 22, Boston College 13: Mike Trumpy ran for 106 yards with a late touchdown, and host Northweste­rn beat Boston College.

Jeff Budzien tied a school record with five field goals and the Wildcats (3-0) made it three wins over three BCS teams to start the season even though they didn’t reach the end zone until the closing minutes.

They downed a punt at the 1 to pin Boston College (1-2) against the goal line and took over on the Eagles’ 44 with 2:35 left in the game after they went three-and-out.
