Georgia State rallies in baseball

After blowing lead, Panthers (12-6) beat Old Dominion 13-8.

Chad Prain and Josh Merrigan hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning to tie the game, then drove in the goahead runs in the sixth to lead Georgia State to a 138 victory over Old Dominion on Friday in Atlanta.

Georgia State (12-6, 3-1 CAA) led 5-1 after two innings, but the Monarchs (9-7, 2-2) scored three runs in the third and three in the fourth for a 75 lead.

Georgia Tech 12, Boston College 5: The Yellow Jackets (15-2, 3-1 ACC)) had 16 hits and scored in six of their eight innings in the win over the Eagles (3-13, 0-4) in Atlanta. Kyle Wren had three RBIs for Georgia Tech.

Mercer 4, Kennesaw State 3 (11 innings): Mercer (15-4, 1-0 A-Sun) scored the winning run on a wild pitch against the Owls (9-9, 0-1) in Kennesaw.

Softball

Georgia 9, Auburn 3: Paige Wilson and Tina Iosefa each had three RBIs to lead Georgia (19-7, 1-0 SEC) past host Auburn (20-8, 1-3).

Tennis

No. 5 Georgia men 4, Florida 0: The Bulldogs (11-4, 3-1 SEC) took the early lead by winning the doubles point en route to winning their fifth straight match over the Gators (7-6, 1-2).

No. 4. Florida women 4, No. 12 Georgia 1: Georgia (10-2, 3-1 SEC) won the doubles point but fell in singles against the Gators (10-2, 3-1) in Gainesvill­e, Fla.

Florida State men 4, Georgia Tech 3: The Seminoles (13-3, 1-0 ACC) won the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches against the Yellow Jackets (7-7, 01) in Atlanta. Senior Juan Melian went to a tiebreaker to win at No. 1 singles, beating Dominic Cotrone 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Kennesaw State women 5, Bethune-Cookman 1: The Owls (5-7) won five of six singles matches against the Wildcats (108) in Daytona Beach, Fla. The teams did not play doubles in the match.

Track and field

Kennesaw State: Martynas Sedys won the men’s hammer throw and Robert Harvey was second at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Gwennetta Jones won the women’s shot put

Georgia: The Bulldogs took the top three spots in the women’s 5,000 meters at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Nicole DiMercurio won in 17:07.32, followed by Leslie Boozer and Morgan VanGorder. Elizabeth Tepe finished first in women’s hammer throw.

Georgia Tech: Jonathan Gardner and Jhanelle McLeod won the men’s and women’s triple jump at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Myles McDavid placed fourth, and Julienne McKee was fifth.

Golf

Georgia State women: Junior Laura Sanchez shot a 5-over 77 to lead the Panthers to 14th place after the first round of the Lady Jaguar Intercolle­giate in Augusta. Georgia State is at 32-over, 30 strokes behind leader Vanderbilt.

Kennesaw State women: Ines Lescudier led the Owls with a 7-over 79 at the Lady Jaguar Invitation­al in Augusta. Kennesaw State is in 17th place at 37-over after the first round.

Lacrosse

Winthrop 22, Kennesaw State 8: Emily Collins and Senneca Ward each scored three goals for the Owls (0-5) against the Eagles (5-4) in Rock Hill, S.C.
