City of Atlanta. For the first time, Atlanta will host two quarterfin­al games in the Gold Cup internatio­nal soccer tournament on July 20. This tournament features national teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Capitol City Opera. With a tiny budget, the company presented a full-scale opera with a 17piece orchestra this weekend. It’s an important milestone for the company and for Atlanta, critics say, adding it provides a springboar­d for young talent.

Atlanta Falcons. Sports analysts say Tony Gonzalez agreeing to stay another year and the addition of running back Steven Jackson may edge the team closer to the Super Bowl.
