Nonprofit still not paying tax bills
The Historic District Development Corp., a nonprofit cofounded by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow and sister still isn’t paying its city and county tax bills. Citing recovery from the recession, it now owes $32,000 on 13 properties — mostly vacant lots and empty buildings in the Old Fourth Ward. It was absolved of more than $100,000 in taxes and late charges on those same properties two years ago.
Unless the debts are settled, the properties could end up on the auction block.
