Panthers trail 10-1, win

Chase Raffield’s walkoff home run capped Georgia State’s rally from a 10-1 deficit to a 12-10 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday in Atlanta.

Down 10-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Panthers scored two runs, then added two in the seventh, three in the eighth and four in the ninth, with help from two homers from Nic Wilson.

Wilson’s second homer came with one out in the bottom of the ninth and pulled the Panthers within a run at 10-9. Greg Bowder then walked, reached second on a passed ball and scored on a single after a wild throw from the shortstop to bring up Raffield.

The victory was the fourth in a row for the Panthers (13-6, 4-1 CAA). They finish their series against Old Dominion (98, 2-3) today.

No. 14 Georgia Tech 11, Boston College 3: The Yellow Jackets hit four home runs and Brandon Thomas and Matt Gonzalez each had three hits against the Eagles (3-14, 05 ACC). Junior Dusty Isaacs (3-1) had six strikeouts with two runs on four hits in seven innings for Georgia Tech (16-2, 4-1).

Mercer 5, Kennesaw State 1: Owls starter Travis Dean threw a seasonhigh eight strikeouts, but the Bears (16-4, 2-0 ASun) rallied with two runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth for the victory at Kennesaw State (910, 0-2). Owls center fielder Bo Way pushed his hit- ting streak to 14 games.

Texas A&M 2, Georgia 1 (10 innings): Krey Bratsen drove in the gamewinnin­g run in the bottom of the 10th for the Aggies (13-7, 2-0 SEC) against Georgia (8-11, 0-2) in College Station, Texas.

Softball

No. 2 Emory 4, Case Western Reserve 0: Emory (32-1, 8-0 UAA) won its conference tournament with a perfect 8-0 record on the weekend in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

No. 25 Georgia 2, Auburn 0: Kaylee Puailoa hit two home runs to lead Georgia in Auburn, Ala. Morgan Montemayor allowed four hits with six strikeouts in the complete-game shutout for the Bulldogs (20-7, 2-0 SEC). Marcy Harper had seven strikeouts for Auburn (20-9, 1-4).

Track and field

Georgia State: The Panthers took the top three spots in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplecha­se at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Anna Sinclair won in 11:28.90, followed by Denise Myers and Alison Bishop. Niamh Kearney won the women’s 3,000 meters, ahead of Sarah McCarthy in fifth place and Kelsey Spinks in seventh.

Kennesaw State: Bryan Burruss and Josh Jenkins took the top two spots in the men’s 3,000meter steeplecha­se at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Burruss won with a time of 9:32.06. Rasmus Rooks won the men’s long jump. On the women’s side, Cynthia Davis, Alicia Whittle, Kentrell White and Han- nah Wood won the 4x100 relay, and Shermaine Pinkard won discus.

Georgia: Georgia runners swept the 100 meters, with Briana Vaughn and Johnathan Smith winning at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Morgann Leleux won in pole vault, and Rashan Brown, Quintunya Chapman, Torrenzia Lyles and Taylor Hollingswo­rth combined to win the women’s 4x400 relay. Levern Spencer, Leontia Kallenou and Saniel Atkinson Grier swept the top three spots in women’s high jump. Other winners were Charles Grethen (men’s 1,500) and Burke McCarty (men’s discus).

Georgia Tech: The Jackets’ men and women swept the 4x800 relays at the Georgia Relays in Athens. Rachel Hammond, Caroline Kissel, Laura Serres and Morgan Jackson won for the women, as did Julienne McKee (long jump) and Ama Larbi (400 hurdles). Winners for the men were Brandon Lasater, Jeremy Greenwald, Joseph Stowe and Cole Jackob (4x800 relay) and Mykhail Chambers (high jump).

Golf

Georgia State women: The Panthers moved up to 13th place after two rounds at the Lady Jaguar Intercolle­giate in Augusta. Julie Lied led the Panthers with a 5-over 77. Georgia State trails leader Vanderbilt by 51 strokes.

Kennesaw State women: Ines Lescudier led the Owls with a 6-over 78 at the Lady Jaguar Intercolle­giate in Augusta. Kennesaw State is 17th.
