Healthy Furcal joins Marlins

-

Sidelined for more than a year by injuries, Miami Marlins second baseman Rafael Furcal was in the lineup for the first time this season Friday night.

And now that Furcal’s healthy, manager Mike Redmond plans to play him every day.

Furcal missed all of 2013 because of an elbow injury, and sat out the first 2 ½ months of this season with hamstring and groin injuries. He was activated from the 60-day disabled list before Friday’s game against the visiting Pirates and batted leadoff.

Furcal, 36, spent nearly two months in the minors on a rehabilitation assignment that was interrupted twice when he aggravated his injuries.

The Marlins signed Furcal to a $3 million, oneyear deal last offseason.

Brewers: Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and Rollie Fingers joined baseball Commissioner Bud Selig as inaugural honorees on the Brewers’ Wall of Honor. The plaques on the exterior facade of Miller Park were unveiled before Friday’s game against the Reds.

Reds: Right-hander Mat Latos will be activated today and make his season debut tonight against the Brewers. Latos is returning from elbow and knee surgeries.

Cardinals: First baseman Matt Adams was activated from the 15-day disabled list from a left calf strain and rookie outfielder Oscar Taveras was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

Twins: Outfielder Aaron Hicks was put on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

Dodgers: Catcher A. J. Ellis (sprained right ankle) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and catcher Tim Federowicz was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Cardinals: Ace Adam Wainwright said his elbow injury is not serious, but he could miss a start to allow the tendinitis to calm down.

Red Sox: Third baseman Will Middlebrooks, on the disabled list with a fractured right index fin- ger, was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Diamondbacks: Outfielder Ender Inciarte was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

Athletics: Infielder Alberto Callaspo was placed on the paternity list and infielder Andy Parrino was recalled from TripleA Sacramento.
