School bus overturns in Columbia County
A school bus monitor was injured and a 6-yearold student shaken up when a school bus rolled onto its side Thursday afternoon as its driver tried to avoid hitting a deer in Columbia County.
According to Columbia County sheriff ’s Capt. Sharif Chochol, emergency management technicians said the Lewiston Elementary student, who was not identified, did not appear injured.
Bus monitor Carla Dorsey was taken by ambulance to a hospital, but her injuries did not appear life-threatening, police said.
Longtime Columbia County school bus driver Becky Brickhouse was not injured in the 3:45 p.m. accident on William Few Parkway. A database by the Augusta Chronicle on deer/vehicle collisions in the metro area showed 19 such accidents on that roadway from 2013 through Oct. 27, 2014.
