Delta Air Lines is paying its employees in Georgia a total of $450 million in profitsharing bonuses, the company said.

Atlanta-based Delta has about 32,000 employees in the state, up from about 25,000 in 2008 before its acquisition of Northwest Airlines.

The airline’s workers in Georgia will get a significant share of the $1.1 billion in total profit-sharing Delta is paying to its nearly 80,000 employees around the world.

“The total payment in Georgia will be $450 million, straight into the economy,” said Delta CEO Richard Anderson. The airline has employees at its hub at HartsfieldJackson International Airport, at its headquarters next to the airport and at other locations around the state.

For employees such as pilots, flight attendants or gate agents, their total profit-sharing amount is about 16 percent of their income for 2014, or about two months extra pay, he said. “This incentive is very important,” Anderson said. “Our folks work very hard.”

Delta paid out part of the total last October and will dole out the remainder this Friday.

The airline traditionally celebrates profit-sharing on Valentine’s Day with parties at its headquarters and other locations. Valentine’s Day falls on Saturday this year.

Delta reported net income of $659 million for 2014, and said its pre-tax income for the year was $4.5 billion, excluding special items.
