End of $1.5 million park project in sight

After delays caused by spring rains, Holly Springs’ newest park is expected to be open for business following a ribboncutting planned by summer’s end.

Construction on the $1.5 million J.B. Owens Park project on Hickory Road was supposed to wrap up in June, said City Manager Rob Logan. He said frequent rains and resultant mud earlier this year delayed concrete-pouring and landscaping.

Logan said the back of the park and its playground, pavilion and walking trails are “pretty much done.” Still to be finished are the parking lot and site grading and paving.

He said the restrooms are also done but a certification of occupancy has yet to be issued.

The 33-acre park is named for James Baxter Owens, who was the last agent at the city’s historic train depot.
