Partial millage rollback approved

- MONROE ROARK FOR THE AJC

The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted July 29 to a partial millage rollback, from 14.298 last year to 13.873. The vote was 4-2, with Chairman Tommy Smith and Commissioner Gary Barham voting against.

A total rollback would have reduced the number to 12.234, but county staff and most of the board agreed that the county’s $134.6 million budget could not be funded properly that way.

Total ad valorem tax levies now stand at 39.551 for the unincorporated county and for Stockbridge; 42.101 for McDonough; 37.764 for Hampton; and 37.753 for Locust Grove.

The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $125,000 is $37.24 for unicorporated parts of the county; $49.80 for McDonough; 36.19 for Stockbridge; $47.08 for Hampton and $41.26 for Locust Grove.

The proposed tax increase for non-homesteaded property with a fair market value of $325,000 is $138.32 for those in unincorporated parts of the county; $184.99 for McDonough; $134.42 for Stockbridge; $174.85 for Hampton and $153.27 for Locust Grove.
